Several years ago I fell in love with Oprah’s favorite scripture. Psalms 46:10 Be Still and Know That I AM GOD. At the time I was traveling almost every week, working 70 hours a week and overall burning the candle at all ends. I would joke with a friend about trying to be still and laugh at my restlessness, and I would pray to understand stillness.
3 years later, after one of the most challenging but also transformative phases of my life I believe I may be starting to understand….
I still have a lot to learn, but so far here are some things I believe to be true about stillness…
-It is not found on a perfect day when all is right with the world, but in the midst of a hurricane when everything is falling around you but you are still and deeply rooted in peace and joy…trusting God…authentically and fully…
-It is when you realize that you are not in control and that is beautiful…
-Finding out that the world doesn’t revolve around you, but you are meant to play a very important role in the world and it is your job to be that as much as possible, all of the time…
– It is feeling the tugs of deep emotion sorrow, loss, fear, loneliness, then pulling back and becoming the observer…watching the storm but somewhere deep inside being at peace…
-It is in the quiet, and beauty of a snow covered night just before spring, appreciating the beauty within the cold and dark but feeling pulled toward the explosion of life and warmth that is days away…
There is a beautiful space in all of our hearts. A place to connect to God with everything that we are, a place where there is a deep truth for all of us, a place where we can grow and become deeply rooted and no outside influence can change what is taking place. It is a place of stillness and a place of knowing…for me like a caterpillar in its cocoon I found this place through losing the world as I knew it and going within….however, I have been blessed to know many who did not have a journey of so much loss and destruction to get there but we’re very intentional in caring for their soul…the next time you find a storm in your life, I encourage you to at that moment seek peace and joy. If you can’t…start a journey to discover what that means for you, you just might find stillness along the way 😉
Happy Traveling and Much Love,
M.
